Synopsis

This is an all out war between all the factions to control the absolute power of the Ark.

Take control and fight for dominance over other factions and become the strongest faction in the universe.

Tutorial

(please read them!!!)

Overview

We were given full creative control by our professor to pick any existing IPs and create a board game from the IPs.

We picked Halo as all the team members love Halo and Sci-Fi action game genre.

Our biggest gripe with board games is that their tutorial takes too many pages to explain how to play the game. So the first thing we did is that we designed a game around the fact that we only want 1 piece of paper to explain all the rules of the game.

Yes, everything you need to know about the game is here. Please take a read.

Special Modes

While designing this game some team members could not come for playtests so we came up with 2-3 players campaigns so that we could try and get a feel for the game.

While 4 Players is the best because it allows for multiple faction fighting and opportunities to make truce thus create more complexity in the game.

We want to accommodate to everyone that might not have 4 people to play this game with.

Gameplay Example

Gameplay

We did not have a lot of time when we came to the testing phase for the game since at this time in development we are at our 2nd redesign of the project because our original design wasn't interesting enough.

Since this was a fully online class, we couldn't meet in person to playtest so I came up with the idea to use Miro, a whiteboard website, to play test the game.

As you can see, it gets really chaotic really fast. I had fun designing and playing this game and so did the friends who helped us playtest the game.

Round 1 vs Late Game

Map Design

Map and Lanes

Inspired by the gameplay of RISK, we created a 8 lanes map that each players can access 3 at the time.

The objective is to control the middle of the Ark, which is separated into 12.

You can win by having 1 on each of the 12 splits, or having all 12 on anywhere in the middle.

The blue tiles give you an infantry that adds to your total infantry.

The white tiles give you a power up card.

The grey tile is for movement.

Left and Right lanes were balanced for faction combat. As you don't really gain a lot of infantry because we want to let the player choose to either send 1 or some of their infantry down and create combat early game.

Middle lane is purely for building up your infantry count to reach the middle.

Once you have infantry count, you can choose either combat or race to the middle.

We didn't have a lot of time to play test this map design but this is the most balanced design that we could come up with. If we had more time, the map will be better designed.

Cards Design

Player Cards

Each card has a little bit of story to explain who they are and why they want to take over the Ark.

Each card also has an ultimate ability based on their iconic ability in the Halo universe.

There were plans to expand into other factions but because of the time constraint we limited ourselves to the 4 well known factions.

Below is the infantry unit design:

Triangle represents 3                                                               Circle represents 1

Power-up Cards

Power up cards were created the spice up the gameplay, originally the game did not have any power ups and it became stale too fast. We came up with 20 power ups based on traditional card game abilities and in universe abilities
